Born in Steuben County New York 1840. Came to Manitowoc 1856. Major and later Lt. Col. 27th Wisconsin. Admitted to bar but never practiced. County Judge 1873. Editor Pilot 1872. When Pilot burnt in 1871 partner Bollmeyer left him in lurch with no taste for journalism. Died 02/26/1878. Served at Vicksburg and western campaigns. Sold Pilot to John Nagle 1876. County Judge until he died.
