Business Name Name of Business Mendlik & Mulholland - General Store Date 1896-01-01 Notes the general trade of Manitowoc seems to have progressed most satisfactorily since our review of the city 6 years ago; the misfortunes the city has been subjected to during this time does not seem to have affected the trade in the least, but on the contrary, its growth has been constant &amp; progressive; the above firm is one which has kept fully abreast of the times and within the past few months  has added to the capacity of the business so that it assumes a truly metropolitan character; the business in the line of succession is one of the oldest in the city and its career has been one of honorable barter and trade and careful attention to the wants of its patrons; in consequence, its patronage is not changeable; many of their customers have traded with them since the store was started; it was founded in 1866 by the Honorable Joseph Vilas and the members of the present firm have been associated with it since it was founded; the firm recently moved into new quarters on the corner of 8th and Buffalo streets which makes one of the largest and best appointed business houses in the city; it covers an area 55X60 feet, 2 stories and basement with an annex 20X80 feet; this is fully stocked with a general line of merchandise containing a fine assortment in the various lines dealt in; th stock is large, in fact, the largest the firm has ever carried; most of it is new, so is the latest the market offers; Messrs.
